|In the first event of the 2013-2014 speaker series, Memphis Centered is proud to welcome Dr. Pete Daniel to Rhodes. One of the most distinguished American historians, Daniel has written extensively on the history of the South and is the former president of the Organization of American Historians. He has had a long career as a curator at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History, where – among other accomplishments – he helped launch the Memphis Rock 'N' Soul Museum in 2000. |
Daniel currently serves on the nominating committee for the Memphis Music Hall of Fame. In this engaging conversation, he will discuss his interest in Memphis music, his experiences with many of its most influential participants, and his involvement in celebrating our city's rich musical history.
Free and open to the public, this event is presented by Rhodes' Memphis Center, in partnership with the Memphis Rock 'N' Soul Museum and Rhodes' Mike Curb Institute for Music and Department of History. Refreshments will be available at 5 p.m. followed by the lecture at 5:30 p.m.
